[It doesn't take a while for Ryoji to prepare - having to use freezing waters to wash his face aside - and he winds his scarf just a bit tighter before opening the entrance to their rooftop. A quiet night greets him, with stars blinking in the sky. And in the middle of it all is Minato, waiting for him.
Ryoji can't help but smile. It's the best part of living with him these days - to be able to see him everyday, and see what has changed or what hasn't changed with him.]
[ It's a small house that they share, but Minato managed to slip away under cover of the night. Perhaps Ryoji is a heavier sleeper these days, now that he's regained his human form.
Minato lifts a hand at the sound of rustling grass, the telltale sign that he's no longer alone on the grassy roof of their home. ]
That's what coats are for.
[ There's no scarf to be found for him, but Minato's coat is warm enough. It only keeps his body warm though, his bare hands tucked away in his pockets. He withdraws one of them though, patting the space at his side to invite Ryoji over. ]
[Indeed, it's like his body has been catching up to the bodily functions that he never had to bother with in the past. Things like eating, sleeping... it's all part of the experience that he never got to have.
He takes the seat beside Minato, hand running through the grass below them. the scarf keeps him warm, but he can still feel the chill against his face.]
[ Fashion isn't exactly something Minato pays close attention to. But if Ryoji says it, then it must be true.
He scoots a little closer over to Ryoji until their shoulders gently bump against one another, arms resting against each other too. ]
It's cold here during the new year. Not so different from back home.
[ And then he's nodding off in the distance where the sky begins to become painted with pastel orange and pink. There, the sun will rise if they wait patiently for it. ]
[It's nice, to feel Minato like this. A warm body in contrast to the evening breeze. To think that this is a moment that can come to pass, once more.]
The sky is different, though. It's much more clearer, and you can still see the stars blinking at daybreak.
[He's done it before, in that fortunate November month, stargazing under the city skylights. There was the Dark Hour too, but he never thought of it much back then, thinking that it was part of a normal that never was supposed to be.]
But it's nice. To know that there are some things that don't change, no matter where you are.
[ Indeed, it seems there are still some constants despite the two of them finding themselves in an entirely different world. ]
Then you understand.
[ Minato exhales, his warm breath misting from between his lips. It drifts off, disappearing into the air as it mixes in with the rest of the atmosphere. ]
You understand how I felt on that New Year's Eve.
[ Some things don't change, no matter where you are. Some things don't change, no matter who you are. ]
[He did, in a sense. He's Minato's other half, after all. There is nothing about Minato that he doesn't understand - even the parts that he doesn't entirely agree with. Even the things that make Minato human, and Ryoji not.
But one thing is for certain - no matter how different the circumstances between them are, his feelings for Minato will never change. And perhaps that is the same for him, as well.]

[At least, not as Ryoji Mochizuki.]
By the time the New Year happened, I was already stuck in the Dark Hour until the rightful day came.
